The Promises of God

Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. - Psalm 62:5 (NIV)

I love in this verse how David is like, "OK, Self, get in line. stop freaking out."

Have you ever had to do that? I have to do it all the time. Sometimes, I desperately want God to speak to me or move in a powerful way to remind me that he's near, but I have to remind myself that his word was given to us as the ultimate reminder. It is a never changing, life giving, truth and it is full of his promises. What are some of his promises, you ask?

Well, here are a few:

1. God promises that he will NEVER leave you...no matter what.

I know what it's like to feel alone. But isn't it true that we can feel completely alone even when we are surrounded by a crowd of people? Our feelings can tell us a lot of things. Feelings can be a good thing, but they can also deceive us. They have the power to warp reality.

In your darkest moments, God sees you. He cares for you and he is working. He has not left you.

He will never leave you. (Deuteronomy 31:6)

2. God promises that his love is unending and that NOTHING can separate you from it.

Yes, he's seen in all the dark corners of your life. All those moments you've failed, sinned and fallen flat on your face, he's seen (he's seen mine too). Guess what? He still love you. He will always love you. Why? Because it's his promise. Maybe you don't think that you are worthy of love but I have news for you, friend. You don't determine your worth and no one else does either. You were created by a loving maker who cares deeply about every area of your life. He, and he alone determines your worth and HE calls you loved. (Romans 8:28-39)

3. God Promises that that he has overcome the World!! The hope that we have in him, will not disappoint us! Are we going to have trouble in this world? YES. Are we going to have heartache? YES. Are we going to have times where we feel like our lives are falling apart? YES. but Jesus said, "TAKE HEART!! I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD!" It isn't over, friends! Tell your soul to get in line and to "find rest in God" because your hope comes from him! (John 16:36 and Romans 5:5)

I want to encourage you to get in the Word of God every. single. day. It is your life source. Food for your spirit, that you simply cannot live without. Start with five minutes a day. If you are a little intimidated by it and have never read it before, start in one of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke or John). His promises are forever and his Word is full of them.
